Rules

Rules provide a framework for controlling asset and Map visibility, selection, and alarm behavior across Workstations. Users can create custom Rules in the Rules menu located under the Home tab, and Rules can also be modified through Workflows. These Rules can then be applied to either All, None, or a Custom selection of Maps or assets. However, if an asset or Map is included in one or more Rules with contradicting scopes, Allow takes precedence for all Rule types.

A Rule is a collection of privileges that can be added to or removed from a Workstation:

Rules Action Description
Asset Rules Asset can Post Alarms
  • Alarms for this asset appear in the Alarm Banners on the Workstation.
  • Alarm sounds for this asset will play on the Workstation.
Alarms can be Escalated
Note: Only available if Post Alarms is enabled.
  • Configure the time and destination Rules that Unacknowledged asset alarms will escalate to.
  • Configure the time and destination Rules that Acknowledged asset alarms will escalate to.
Note: For more information, see the Alarm Escalation.
Asset can be Viewed
  • Any asset icons for this asset are visible.
  • Other visibility behaviors (System Visibility Buttons, workflow-set visibility actions) require the View Rule to be true before they can function.
Note: An asset will only be visible if the View Rule is true. A visibility button can temporarily hide or show it, but the View Rule still decides whether it can appear at all.
Asset can be Selected
  • Touching or clicking this asset will always trigger the “Touched” and “Selected” workflows and bring up the Command Panel.
Note: Without the Select Rule, touching or clicking the asset always triggers the “Touched” workflow, but not the “Selected” workflow.
  • Workflow actions can select this asset.

Map Rules Map can be Accessed
  • Maps will appear in Navigation Items.
Note: Navigation Item buttons update dynamically based on the Rules and Security applied to them.
  • Maps can be navigated to via Alarm Banners.
  • Maps can be navigated to via Workflow Commands.
