Backgrounds

Background images are used in Maps to display the layout of the area the Map represents. Images are used over the drawing tools shapes as they are faster to display than rendering shapes in Runtime.

Best Practices for Backgrounds

  • Use simplified outlines of the layout, as the elements in the background are not relevant. The assets should be the focus instead.
  • Use a drawing tool such as Inkscape to create the image
  • Use a color palette
    • Use dark tones for areas where people are not frequently walking (e.g., an office)
    • Use light colors for corridors and hallways
  • Get a floor plan as a starting base to work with
  • Decide on the size of your Map Container first so you know what resolution to use for the image.
